When someone asks ChatGPT, Google’s AI Mode or Perplexity for “the best marketing agency in Naples” or “a good roofer near me”, the answer names a handful of businesses. AI SEO in Naples, FL is the work of being one of them: making your business easy for AI assistants to find, understand, trust and quote. We do it for our own agency first. In October 2026, ChatGPT listed We Lead third when asked for the best digital marketing agencies in Naples.
What AI SEO actually is, and what it is not
AI visibility is not a separate trick layered on top of search. Google says it plainly in its own documentation: there are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary. A page has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet, and the usual fundamentals still decide the rest.
So the honest version of AI SEO is SEO done to a standard an assistant can quote, plus being present in the places assistants look when they assemble an answer: your Google Business Profile, Bing, review platforms, directories and the articles that mention you. It is not a special file, a secret schema type or a guarantee. Anyone selling you those is selling the label, not the work.
Where each AI assistant gets its answers
| Assistant | Where it looks | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Overviews and AI Mode | Google’s own search index | If you are not indexed and eligible for a snippet in Google, you cannot be in the AI answer |
| ChatGPT search | OpenAI’s search crawler, OAI-SearchBot, plus search partners | OpenAI states that sites opted out of OAI-SearchBot are not shown in ChatGPT search answers |
| Microsoft Copilot | Bing | A business that is missing or out of date on Bing is missing from Copilot |
| Perplexity | Its own crawler, PerplexityBot, and live web search | Clear, crawlable pages with direct answers get cited by name and link |
The pattern is the same everywhere: an assistant can only recommend what it can reach, read and verify against other sources. We tested this in our own market: six buyer questions about hiring in Naples, put to Perplexity and Google AI Mode, twelve answers and 95 cited sources logged one by one. The Google Business Profile supplied the names, ratings and addresses; the business’s own website supplied how it was described. The full method and results are in our Naples AI search test.
What our AI SEO work includes
AI SEO is part of every We Lead SEO engagement in Naples, not an add-on. For businesses whose rankings are already in good shape, it can also start on its own, as an AI visibility audit.
- Access audit: robots.txt, firewalls and hosting settings checked for the crawlers that feed AI answers, including OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Bingbot. Blocking them by accident is more common than you would think.
- One consistent identity: the same business name, address, phone, logo and description on your website, Google Business Profile, Bing Places and the directories that matter, declared in structured data that matches what the page shows.
- Answer-first content: service pages and articles that state the answer in the first lines, use the question as the heading and back every claim with a source or a real number. That is the shape assistants lift into answers.
- Bing coverage: Bing Webmaster Tools, Bing Places and instant indexing through IndexNow, so changes reach Bing and Copilot in days, not weeks.
- Proof that others can see: reviews, client case studies and mentions on sites assistants already trust. An agency describing itself is weak evidence; other people describing it is strong.
- Monthly measurement: a fixed set of questions your customers would ask, put to ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and Copilot every month, with the answers logged so you can see who is named and whether it is you.
What we did for our own agency
We use our own site as the test bench. In the last weeks we gave ChatGPT and Google one clear identity to work with: a square logo they can display, “We Lead Agency” declared as our alternate name, the same description everywhere, and structured data on every service and city page. Our service and city pages answer the question in the first paragraph, and our case studies publish the raw numbers, small ones included.
When we asked ChatGPT for the best digital marketing agencies in Naples in October 2026, it named We Lead third and described us as a smaller, hands-on alternative to more established firms, which is exactly how we describe ourselves. The structure behind it is documented in our product launch case study, where we built the same answer-first content for a new product from day one.
Three checks on your AI visibility
Fifteen minutes, no tools. These tell you whether AI assistants can find you before you spend anything.
- Ask the question your customer would askIn ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, ask for the best business like yours in your city. Write down every name in each answer. If competitors are named and you are not, note which sources each assistant cites. Those are the places you need to be.
- Check that the AI crawlers are allowedOpen yoursite.com/robots.txt and look for OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot or Bingbot under a Disallow rule.A single line there can remove you from an assistant entirely. Some security plugins and hosting firewalls block these bots without telling you.
- Compare your details everywhereLook up your business on Google Maps, Bing Maps and Yelp, and compare the name, address, phone and hours with your website.Assistants cross-check sources. Two versions of your phone number or an old address makes you look less certain than a competitor with one clean record.
If check two fails, fix it first. Nothing else on this page matters while the door is shut.
AI SEO or AI automation?
The two get confused. AI SEO is about being found and recommended by AI assistants. If you are looking for AI working inside your business instead, such as chat assistants on your website, automated follow-ups or tools built around your workflow, that is our AI, automation and custom software service. Many clients use both: one brings people in, the other answers them in seconds.
What it cannot promise
AI answers change from person to person and from day to day. Nobody can guarantee that an assistant will name your business, and any agency that does is guessing. What we can do is remove every reason it would not: blocked crawlers, inconsistent details, thin pages and a lack of proof. Then we measure, every month, with the same questions, so you see the trend instead of a single lucky screenshot.
